Honduras. Bringing hope and changing lives
Goal:$8,000
The HOPE worldwide staff understands too well the vulnerability and needs of the poor in good times and especially in bad. This year HOPE worldwide - Honduras has a shortfall of $8,000. Despite limited funding the team in Honduras continues to serve through three program areas including education, medical and senior outreach.
HOPE worldwide – Honduras’ programs currently include:
Chamelecon
Medical Center – Provides both pediatric and adult medical, dental and vision care. 4,200+ patients per year are treated.
Senior care – Volunteers provide health information and services to the elderly.
The HOPE worldwide Medical Clinic provides medical and dental treatment in a community of great need. Three fulltime dentists and one part-time doctor provide services to the community Monday through Friday. Medical brigades also frequent the clinic, which enables it to treat and educate a larger number of people.
The Tiburcio Martinez School
In Monteverde, at the HOPE worldwide Tiburcio Martinez School provides an education to children in an impoverished area. The children at this school range in the ages 6-18, giving them an opportunity to improve their futures. The school is currently expanding in order to provide a better education for the growing number of children in this area.
HOPE worldwide plans to increase the services that we offer in both the medical clinic and the school. In order to make this happen, we need generate more funds for additional staff salaries and supplies. For the clinic, we are in need of medical equipment: x-ray, endoscopy unit, ultrasound, fetal monitor, three air conditioning units, four computers, and four beds. For the school, six white boards, 250 desks, six file cabinets, paint, and 40 computers are needed.
